FM: City of Lights

11 February 2011
Arrived at the office this morning and greeted by these two lovelies:
Vicki went to Perth during Chinese New Year break and got me these two fridge magnets. Aren't they gorgeous? Metallic-ky and shiny!! Vicki has an aunt who resides there and I enjoyed listening to her making plans for her trip.
I am not sure why but after several tries, the pic above REFUSED to appear in the correct rotation. So, I guess I have to cock my head to the left to adore it in this blog.

One of My Favourites

This is definitely one of my favourites. A set of 6 magnets which makes up one huge island:
So, how do I calculate this? One magnet or 6 magnets? One la, of course, since individually they do not make much sense; although it is carefully divided into Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and a combination of Victoria & Tasmania. Awesome. Now I can pass the pop quiz on Australia! Yay!

The Top From Down Under

City of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

A gorgeous drop dead beauty. It's rubber magnetto. Again, one of my favourites. Melbourne original!

I can't believe my good luck when the kindhearted Yusof showed them to me. And what nmore when he told me that he bought it for the Bintulu Gang ladies. Thanks to my lady friends who gave me the first right of refusal. Whereby I refuse to refuse any of them magnets.

Izwan & I did travel to Melbourne, way back in 1998. Ten years before this magnetto became mine. Izwan was sent there for work, and I followed soon. My friend Boonli was residing in Melbourne then, so we had a tour guide!

Revisit: Melbourne #180

Recently I have decided to take more pics of the fridge magnets I have posted before. Pictures from different angles. To give better illustration of how the fridge magnet actually look like. This is the first of the series. I'll have the word "Revisit" to indicate that it has been posted on this blog before.

Click here to see the old post. I took the picture below recently, to show the thickness of the item. It is really one cool stuff. The details are unbelievable. It looks like it is handpainted too.

Not On My Feet

I have Bali slippers. Giant ones. Tiny Ones. But I also have one specially flown all the way from Melbourne. Fabulous. Thanks to Yusof Nik the architect, I got a handful many of Melbourne fridge magnets and I love them ALL !
Correction - not specially flown as in 'specially delivered' but rather they were purchased at the Farmers Market while Yusof was on holiday.

This picture was taken in May 2008, at Yusof & Fiza's wedding reception.
The detailing in this fridge magnet is pretty cool. Very detailed, very intricate, very lovely.

Gold Coast Heat

This is my third Gold Coast magnet, courtesy of my friend Dato' Firah. So far, I only have three magnets from Gold Coast, but who knows, maybe there'll be more? Jeng jeng jeng

There's a thermometer but I'm not sure if it works well. Regardless, it is still a cool one despite the place getting very hot come December.

Movie World

Dato' Muzaffirah Tun Ahmad Fairuz a.k.a. good ole Firah bought me some magnets from her recent trip to Gold Coast, Australia. One of them is this little cute tweety bird:

Wikipedia will tell you that Warner Bros. Movie World is a popular movie related theme park on the Gold Coast in Australia. It is owned and operated by Village Roadshow since the take over from Time Warner and is the only movie related park in Australia.

It opened on June 3, 1991.

The park contains various movie-themed rides and attractions ranging from motion simulators to roller coasters and slow river rides.

Movie World also features the only Scooby-doo film based indoor roller-coaster situated in the theme park's own studio lot. In addition, costumed character performers also patrol the park, allowing visitors the chance to take photos with them. These include Catwoman, Batman, Austin Powers and various Looney Tunes characters.

Minor street shows including skits and singing performances are also present. The All-Star Parade commences at 2.30 PM every day, and also showcases costumed characters alongside vehicles and movie-themed floats.

There are also a number of actual active film studios within the Movie World complex.

Back to Firah, the pic above is of the two of us together with our friends Shida, Aida & Yaya during the all-birthdays-lumped-in-one lunch we had earlier this year.

Movie World

Firah bought me some fridge magnets from Gold Coast!! Yipee yay yay. Three cheers for Firah. This one is from Movie World.

Walking down memory lane, I remember meeting Firah for the very first time. At the good ole AZY. I just started practising and was 'loaned' to the conveyancing department as they were in need for someone to handle the tenants of a (then) new posh and (now) successful shopping mall.

Shida, Aida, me, Firah and Yaya in April

It was Firah's first day at the office. And we clicked almost instantly. And the usual group (pic above) of us who would roam the backlanes behind Jalan Raja Chulan for lunch had a new member. And it was a fabulous gang. Still is!!

Choo Choo Tram

Yes, you read it right... choo choo tram, not choo choo train.

This is related to my 2 entries just before this post. I have two trams fridge magnets, thanks to The Architect. Oppsss.. make that three! Ah, greedy me!

I do remember Melbourne. Izwan & I went there in 1998. Izwan was on official assignment and he took leave to stay in Melbourne longer. I took leave to join him there on his last official day there. My brother Itt (who was a final year accounting student at UKM then) drove me to the airport.

I reached Melbourne, took a bus to Crown Tower Hotel and had to show my passport to the guys at the casino entrance as evidence that I am not underage! Anyways, back to En Yusof's generosity in buying trams magnets, here's the appreciation clause:

(oish, dah banyak betul magnet aku nih!!
Too much is never enough)

Grab 'Em All?

In continuation of my earlier entry on Melbourne magnets, these are the pics of the magnets I didn't refuse!
A total of nine of them... I can't even put them all in one pics so as to ensure each one can be clearly seen when I post them on this blog.
And I went one step further. I was so kiasu that I even took pics of the packaging label!! hehe

From DownUnder

Many thanks to Ar. Yusof (whom I still owe that anti-mosquito lotion I promised) he bought for the ladies of Bintulu team quite a number of fridge magnets! He went to Melbourne earlier this year with his son to see his eldest daughter.

Since I was the avid fridge magnet collector, I was given the first right of refusal!! If I had my way, surely I want them all, but I am ehem... quite level headed!

We had dinner recently at Ar. Yusof's beautifully designed & decorated home. It was fun, and the host had to wait til midnight for his guests to leave! But I'm pretty sure the host didn't mind a bit ... coz we're the cool gang! (perasan habis!). And who knows, there's more free dinner passes for us in future!! Har! Har!
