OMG. Have I been neglected this blog for that long? Oct 2009, and now past mid Jan 2010. OK, I shall try to update more frequently!

It has been more than two months since I last updated this poor blog. So, to get things started, let's revisit some of the fridge magnets that I have blogged here before. Feast for the eyes!

This is how my fridge look like on 31st May 2009. Even my bibik agreed that the fridge will look dull without those magnettos. Indeed, it light up the entire area. Makes me smile everytime!

Safekeeping

Around ten days ago, I put the plan to action. I got the black cardboards (mounting boards, they call it), the colourful tack-its, and the three shoe boxes containing the fridge magnets out.


It took me the whole night. At the end of it, 233 magnets were placed on 22 pieces of black cardboards. They are so colourful, and adorable, I must say so myself.


Tasha counted the numbers, hence we marked it at 233.

I must say thank you to all who helped build this empire. Opps... I mean this collection. Mwahahahah

Welcome To My Lair

The number is going up. I am, so very pleased!!

I had asked Ar Yusof to get me some fridge magnets during his trip to Uzbekistan. He got me 8 of them (see above). And below, GH gave me 3 (including the Korean couple ) and the rest is from Mrs Woods who resides in India.

Mrs Woods emailed me coz she was devastated since a Hard Rock Cafe Roma magnet which was supposed to be in the package meant for me is no where to be found. Nevertheless, I am so glad!

My sis Gee bought me all of the above during his work trip to Jakarta a week before our brother's wedding.

Below, is a pleasant surprise. In my excitement in collecting, I totally forgot that my cousin Abang Chik is studying engineering in Sydney. So when Mak Uda Leha told me Abang Chik bought me fridge magnets, I almost jumped for joy.

Admittedly, I gave ONE to Mak. So stingy, kan? Anyways, in an effort not to appear to be stingy, (tho I am one, when it comes to my collection), I bought 2 real nice ones at the Singapore Zoo for Mak; including a PVC magnet of Singapore showing some prominent landmarks.

Above is a picture of the magnettos I posted to UK for Izatul. It was a belated birthday surprise! Below, I parted with some of mine for GH.

Idea

I have some rough ideas as to how to properly keep my colection; since they cannot all fit on the doors of my refrigerator at home. A friend suggested that I keep them in a glass cabinet with metal piece so I can put all of them inside. I'm not so sure if that is workable. Maybe if I have extra space for am additional cabinet in my house, I'll think about it :-) For the time being, I'll be contents on putting them on a piece of board, using tack-it since magnetic sheets are probably not within budget. And they'll be kept in either a box or the reasure chest which we already have at home. We'll see if I get around to doing it!

A Story To Tell

I keep my fridge magnets meaningful. So that there is a story to tell. Remember the newspaper article featuring yours truly & my collection?

It says "Every Fridge Magnet Has A Story".

That is why I intend to keep mine generally based on countries, cities, places. But what better story to feature than to have an old friend personally HAND MADE a set of four fridge magnets for you. They were made with love, friendship and kindness. It can't get better than that.

I am beaming with pride. And I am so thankful to Allah. Nina, you don't know how happy you made me!

Getting Old

When I crossed the 300 line, I looked at the pcitures of the fridge magnets I am yet to document, I thought I only have a handful more to go. When I got home and I saw the London Snowstorm I own, which is similar to the one I booked from Naza (but yet to receive), I thought I must have forgoten to document some of mine.

And then I realised that I have not resized any of the fridge magnets I made Imran Hamid buy for me during his Europe/UK excursion.

Neither have I done so for the fridge magnets I got from Nik Yurni in March.

Oh dear. I am getting old. I have actually taken pictures of nthem magnets but I am yet to resize them and put them in the "To Do" folder!

I'm taking a deep breath. I have 18 more to add to present "To Do" folder.

Kawan Baru

I met up with new friends, who are also fridge magnets collector, yesterday evening after work. Apa lagi, camera pun dikeluarkan la dari handbag tapi Jane Doe refused to have her picture taken.




I bought one Canada and one China PVC/rubber fridge magnet from Jane Doe. Shortly later, MsLvoe joined us.

She got me a set of three Digi fridge magnets, plus one from Vietnam and another from Cameron Highlands.

Aiyayayaya the magnets are so so so cute. And the ladies are wonderful too! I had fun! Perhaps we can do again soon, ladies!

2008 Magnets and More

Few hours before 2008 come to an end, I decided to give my fridge magnets a little cleaning up. Took down everything and cleaned the fridge surface. It looked VERY VERY bare, dull and lifeless without the colourful magnets! So I put up the most recent ones plus those from San Fransisco.

It is quite dazzling (perasan statement nih)!!

And these are left in the several plastic/paper/recycleable bags:

I sure hope I will get more to increase my collection in 2009.

Fridge Magnet Collector

Way back on 31 March 2008, Tech N U, the IT pullout of New Straits Times newspaper, published a story about yours truly on my craze over fridge magnets. I am a collector of those cute things, especially when the magnet features the name of the country/state/town that it represents. Here is what how the story looks:

Well, way back in March, updating the blog every three or four days was a statement of fact. But after this feature was published, that blog took a backseat and I have not updated it for a long while - more than a month now. But that's not too bad, right, since I have 1501 who have visited this blog - compared to only a handful who read it when I was actively updating it - heheh

I'll post a pic on how my fridge looks like now; soon. In fact, I'll try to pudate this blog soon, with more pics and stories about my magnets. Oh, you may ask - why did it take me so long to blog about this '15 minutes of glamour'? Kita segan la, wak!!

Back From Hiatus....

Helloooooo ..... and here I am, updating this blog :-)



My last entry was on 12th May 2008 - which is more than two months ago! And surprise surprise while I was on 'sabbatical' from this blog, about 550 unique visitors have dropped by. Amazing, isn't it? I am so glad! Maybe I should go 'hiding' again soon :-)



I received an email from a lady by the name of Roziana, who complimented this blog and expressed her interest on fridge magnets too. Thanks so much, Roziana! Your email made my day. Bersemangat I nak meng-update kan this blog.

Although I still haven't found the thumb drive that went hiding, I took the liberty to take photos of those magnets that I have received for the last three or four months- yep, they're all in a white paper bag as seen in the first picture above.

The photography session at my office during lunch - I skipped lunch just for that, but Roziana, I am not blaming you - the satisfaction? More than words can say! You can see the coloured papers on my white board and the stack of books that replaces a tripod.

Last week, I also received wonderful magnets from Doodlemom last week - yay yay - and here's a sample:



Can you see William Shakespeare in the picture above? It has quickly climbed the ladder to be one of my favourites! It's so cute!!

Not Ignored

It may appear as though I am neglecting this 'anak tiri' blog again, compared to the 'anak emas' blog. Well, it is actually a mixture of yes and no.

Yes, coz most of the time I was soooo-darn-the-very-busy-one that I only update the anak emas.

But the major reason for this alleged 'neglect' is that I have misplaced the thumb drive containing all the pictures of the fridge magnets which I have and have not blogged about. These are the resized pictures, carefully placed in folders with names and properly marked up so that there'll be no double entry for the same thing. I don't know/cannot recall where I put it; tho I'm quite sure I did not throw it away. Until I find it, there'll be a lull period la.

Good thing is that the original is still in my office PC, but now it requires me going through all of them, marking out which ones have been babbled about; and which are yet to be posted and drown all of you into ultimate boredom.

That'll take time, definitely.

FLA write to me!

I wrote an entry on the lighthouse magnet Izwan brought home from Florida. Read it here. I included in that entry on the Florida Lighthouse Association's effort to preserve the lighthouses.

Surprise suprise, Stan Beckman, the Vice President (IT) of Florida Lighthouse Association ("FLA") wrote me an email! He must have found this blog by chance.

He said "Thank you for your kind words about the Florida Lighthouse Association. We have been working hard trying to protect and preserve our remaining lighthouses. We have bills working their way through the Florida House of Representatives and the Senate to approve a vehicle specialty licenses plate for the Florida Lighthouse Association. If this is approved the F.L.A. will receive $25.00 for each of these license plates that are sold. This money will be used for grants to the individual lighthouses to make necessary repairs and restorations. That would go a long way towards the preservation of our lighthouses."

Enough For Today

I guess that'd be enough for today. Although may not be sufficient to pay back' for those weeks I have sort of neglected this blog, but that'll do. After al, I do not want to finish documenting all the magnets I have wayyy too soon!

By the way, from my rough calculation, it'll exceed the 200 mark soon! Awwww......!

In continuation of my earlier entry on Melbourne magnets, these are the pics of the magnets I didn't refuse!

A total of nine of them... I can't even put them all in one pics so as to ensure each one can be clearly seen when I post them on this blog.

Guilty!

I feel so guilty! Ever since the artcile on this blog appeared in the IT pullout (Tech & U) of NSTP, I have not been able to update this blog. Isn't it an irony? Or jinx, perhaps? He he

So I'll try and update this blog with more entries on the magnets that I have. Recently, I received quite a number of magnets from Nik Yurni, Mailisa, Halim, Firah, Shahrul & Zaki.

Like I told a lady who dropped me a line after reading the article, I am so blessed with generous friends who remember me when they see fridge magnets whilst travelling overseas!

What more, hubby Izwan is probably going to USA come next month! Yippe yay yay!!
